This painting, like other things I’ve done, plays on the idea that the Devil is the eternal victim. In this tragic figure, I can find a persona that I find easy to empathise with. I tend to pack my sadness and grief into ideas like these, because it makes it easier to view them from afar and not be absorbed by them.
